Both the government and private sectors are offering numerous skills incentives programs for the teens. This is in response to what the teens want to improve them and learn various skills in preparation for more mature career advancements. These skills incentives programs is just one of the ways to help the teens face the real world.
Unlike other skills training programs, the incentive programs introduce the teens to community-service or community-outreach programs. While doing volunteer works, they are given incentives such as learning various skills, school credits whenever applicable and the possibility to avail home business opportunities should they decide to seriously earn money. In this way, the teens will not only help their community projects, but learn the needed skills to make them competitive in the actual work environment.
Learning skills incentives programs are designed to cater to the needs of teenagers in varying ages by providing different modules. Aside from the different tradecrafts which are provided, there is also the need to develop the total personality of the teenagers. The teens want to avail in those areas which are giving high
value to education, develop problem-solving techniques, enhance communication skills, positive peer support, develop the value of team work and camaraderie, attain satisfaction in helping the community and other people, self-esteem, leadership and management, develop the right attitude and gain positive outlooks in life.
To help the teens adopt the concept of community building, they have to understand that rendering voluntary services to the community is mandated by the constitution, be assured that his rights are not infringed and that the task is noble. Having understood this, the teens become comfortable in volunteering for work and assimilate in the program. Motivating the teens is just easy. Just let him involve in a very simple project to the finish and he would surely be amazed on what he had accomplished
Teens found out to be qualified and are in need of financial assistance are introduced to paid positions within the programs. Others are referred for possible job placements in some institutions sponsoring the program, or have the opportunity to establish home businesses with financial assistance
The length of the program varies depending upon the agency involved. Common length of service is about 35 hours per week for six months. This requirement also depends upon the need of the teenagers, the requirement of the schools and the kind of community services they have to render. These teen participants are required to submit time sheets and periodic accomplishment reports.
It is believed that successful teenagers will not only think of themselves, but have to consider how they can help their respective communities. To earn the needed skills for personal advancement, the teens also want to volunteer in community services to make them part and parcel in nation building.
