Online Recruitment Makes Searching For a Job More Successful |
|

By Arthur Manford Chambers III
The Internet has given us the world of online recruitment and made finding employment simple in some ways and more difficult in others. It is easier because there are many job market portals that link those hiring to potential employees. They allow you to look for jobs in your field whether they are in your geographical area or somewhere else. They can provide a great deal of information on the current job market and give you advice on how to stand out as a candidate.
As easy as it is for you to search for jobs, employers can also easily find online resumes. This makes it easy for recruiters and company representatives to come in contact with potential candidates for their open positions. It can also make it easy for your manager to find your resume listed online too. So, the same open and targeted structure of employment directories can be beneficial as well as a risk. If you are unemployed, the risks are lower and you want employers to know that you are trying to find a job. If you do have
a job, this information can hurt your ability to get ahead in your career. So, the case for using online recruitment centers needs to be thought out by the individual for confidentiality.
This is the hardest thing to evaluate about online recruitment directories. You may see many jobs in your field and at salaries that make them look quite good. When you actually apply, instead of reaching the person hiring you may end up with someone who tells you the job has been filled or a scamer who is trying to make money by switching you to illegal job opportunities. Most people get employed through a personal reference and even though job boards are helpful, without a face-to-face interview, the time you spend on applying can be a waste of time.
After following leads from online recruitment directories, you believe a company is not being honest or it is wasting your time, you can tell them that you've changed your mind and don't think you are the right match for their opening. This way you don't waste time with a company that show signs that they are hemorrhaging workers while continuing to interview other potential new hires. It will cost you time that could be spent interviewing with companies that have a reliable financial background and it will cost you money in transportation costs too. If you are an executive, you can pretty much bet those jobs won't be found online. You will come across entry level jobs or jobs that are in high demand, but not executive positions. The better a job is the more likelihood it is not advertised widely.
The reason for this is that human resources want to target their openings to qualified applicants. If they list a job with high pay on an online directory, they will be swamped with applicants, whether they meet the qualifications or not. So, human resources don't usually post these executive jobs on job markets. Remember, there are a lot of ways to come across the perfect employment. Do your research to insure that you are confident with the business that is hiring before getting trapped in the web of online recruitment.
